Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has not taken a decision yet to participate in the all-party conference (APC) convened by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) to evolve a co-ordination among political parties about relief and reconstruction activities in earthquake-hit areas.

ARD convened a meeting in this regard here on Monday, but could not take a decision either to attend the APC or not.

ARD central leaders including Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Raja Zafarul Haq, Naveed Malik, Raja Liaquat, Iqbal Zafar Jhangra and others attended the meeting.

Briefing media after the meeting, ARD chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim said the alliance has not taken a decision either to attend the APC or not; however, it would take part in the relief and reconstruction activities on its own.

He said the APC should have been held soon after the earthquake to evolve co-ordination without any political concern, but the government did not give any response at that time.

He said he would like to ask what would be the authority and role of all parties in relief and rescue efforts, because army officials have covered all relief associations.

Fahim further demanded of the government to allow two former premiers, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, to take part in relief efforts in quake-affected areas.

He questioned if Nato team could come to Pakistan to participate in relief activities then why not these leaders? He further said workers and members of the alliance would celebrate Eid with earthquake-affected people to show their solidarity with them.
